Shtokman Field turned

25th Anniversary of the first well drilling and discovery of the gas field was celebrated on July 27 2013.
The history of the gas field dates back to 1981. As a result of seismic experiments at the Barents Sea a structure was discovered which later on was called the Shtokman Uplift. In 1988 the research vessel “Valentin Shashin” performed first drilling works which proved the large gas condensate deposit.
The development of the Arctic fields of that scale is always related to heavy costs and hard design work. Shtokman field is not only one of the largest deposit discovered on the Russian part of the continental shelf but also one of the most complex in terms of its accessibility.
